MY Golden Dolphin

MY Golden Dolphin is the original boat of its popular fleet, run by an experienced & professional team. First launched in 2003, the boat has undergone several renovations, and gets refurbished every year. Up to 18 lucky guests can join each trip, staying in air-conditioned cabins that have private bathrooms. But for full-charter bookings, up to 20 guests can join. Trips are one week long, starting each Thursday & visiting all the best dive locations in Egypt’s Red Sea.

At 36 metres long and purpose built, Golden Dolphin is a large boat considering that only up to 20 guests join each trip. The boat has two double-bed cabins on its upper deck, and eight twin-bed cabins on the lower deck. Each cabin has its own bathroom & air conditioning. There’s a choice of places to relax on board, both inside & out, and a large, well-designed dive deck.

The uppermost deck of the boat has a large area for sunbathing and enjoying the views & sea breeze. There are plenty of large sofa sun loungers, and this area is very popular first thing in the morning and late at night. Then down on the upper deck, there are two guest cabins, another area for sun lovers, and the huge outdoor relaxing area. The upper deck cabins have double beds, and are designed for couples. At the front of this upper deck is a soft sofa and a large space available for sunbathing. Then at the rear is a large area that is mostly shaded and partly exposed. Here is where most guests spend their time on board. There are sofas, chairs, & tables and it really is the best place to enjoy the sunset, and maybe a cold beer after a great day’s diving.

Golden Dolphin’s main deck has the large lounge saloon & dining room. Here, the delicious food is served several times each day. Liveaboard scuba diving is hungry work, and the kitchen team on Golden Dolphin make sure that everyone is well fed, with great food! In this room there are also sofas, a library, and audio-visual entertainment. At the rear of the main deck is the diving area. This is large and well organised. Each diver gets his or her own tank slot for the whole trip, and tanks are filled without the need to dismantle the gear. Nitrox is for free to certified divers! You can jump into the crystal-clear Red Sea from the back of Golden Dolphin, and there are tender dinghies when required.

On the lower deck which is accessed via an indoor staircase from the lounge, there are eight twin-bed guest cabins. Each has its own bathroom & air conditioning, plus most have a minibar fridge. These cabins are ideal for friends & siblings. For scheduled trips, the two furthest-forward cabins are only sold to solo guests, on a 'first come, first served' basis. Thus the guest capacity of 18. But if your group is up to 20 and you charter the whole boat, it's possible for everyone to join in comfort.

Something that makes Golden Dolphin stand out against most other Red Sea liveaboards is the available trips. The destination of any trip that doesn’t yet have any divers can be chosen by the first guests to book! So if on the schedule you see ‘any destination available’ that means no one else has booked yet, and you can decide where the boat goes! This works really well for divers who book well in advance and know where they want to dive. Brothers, Daedalus & Elphinstone is the premier Red Sea itinerary, but the northern wrecks are very popular, and the south is mostly undiscovered and incredibly exciting!

There are several itineraries on Golden Dolphin. Please note that when itineraries on the schedule are referred to as ‘any destination available’ this means the boat currently has no bookings, and the itinerary is chosen by the first guests to book.
