NOTICE : As of 2021 diving liveaboards are unable to sail into Myanmar for scuba diving cruises. This boat is currently only sailing in Thailand, but will return to Myanmar as soon as possible.
Sailing from Ranong in Thailand, Miss Moon is among our most-popular Myanmar liveaboard diving boats. It is not a large boat, but with a guest capacity of just ten lucky divers, trips are very personal. There are two different itineraries, which depend on the cruise length and the price. The boat was purpose built in 2008 and is owned and run by its Danish cruise leader who joins every trip. The vibe on the boat is safe, friendly & fun diving in remote areas with no other boats around.
The motto of Miss Moon is ‘we go where no one goes.’ This means that on almost every Miss Moon diving cruise in Myanmar you’re most likely to be the only diving boat in sight. After years of experience, the team have created a couple of excellent itineraries which visit the best diving areas in Myanmar. The longer trips sail out as far as Burma Banks, but even the shorter trip explores some reefs which will blow your mind. For example, Black Rock and North Twin.
The boat takes no more than ten lucky guests. They stay in three cabin types, which are twin bunk, standard double bed, and the master cabin. All are cosy, but have fans & small windows. The double and master cabins also have air conditioning. The guest cabins are not large, but their main purpose is for sleeping after a great day’s diving plus maybe a few drinks in the evening. The small number of people on board and the fact that all trips explore areas with no other dive boats means that it really does feel like an adventure with a group of friends.
There are two main passenger decks on Miss Moon. The upper deck is the communal area where you eat, chill out, and listen to dive briefings. There’s plenty of seating for all ten guests, including sofas and around tables. There’s a large flat-screen tv, but due to the friendly nature of the trips, their destinations and diving being both fun & tiring, it’s rarely required. At the front of the upper deck is a unique sundeck that has its own refrigerator. The middle deck is where the guest cabins and the kitchen are, plus the communal bathrooms and dive platform. From the kitchen comes simply delicious food, served up to four times per day. It’s a perfect blend of Western and local cuisine that’s not too spicy. If you’re a vegan, vegetarian or have another dietary need, you will still enjoy lots of great food, but please inform the team before arrival. At the rear the dive platform is well laid out and large enough for everyone to gear up and move around without inconvenience.
All in all, it’s a great boat to enjoy diving adventures into Myanmar’s Mergui Archipelago. Be quick to book, because trips sell out long in advance.
