The Painted/Spotted Frogfish (Antennarius pictus) is quite a large species, growing to nearly 30 cm. as adults. Because frogfish can change colour, and sometimes texture, it's very hard to identify some species or differentiate what features each species has. The Painted Frogfish is no different, but its stand-out features are its blotches or 'empty spots' covering most of its body. Also, around each eye there are several small black spots.
This fish is also known by other common names, including Black Angler, Painted Devilfish, Spotted Frogfish, & Painted Angler.
