The Nautilus One is a wonderful liveaboard for diving safaris to the best atolls in The Maldives. Its traditional design using the finest wood makes it stand out among more-modern-looking liveaboards. Accommodating up to just 16 guests, the boat has a personal feel and plenty of space to relax & socialise.
The boat was first launched in 1999, and has remained under the care of the same experienced team ever since. Although its design has masts & sails, the boat is normally powered by its Cummins engine. Its safety, navigation & communication facilities are all to the latest standards, and the boat has free wi-fi when in range. The locally-famous chef serves up delicious food every day, which can even include the fish that you may catch during the cruise!
On board, you can choose from plenty of places to relax alone, in couples, or socialise with other guests. These areas include the large sundeck, outdoor shaded sofa areas, and the large lounge saloon/bar. Don’t forget that this boat normally accommodates not more than 14 guests, although in certain cases 16 can join. Days or evenings on board never feel cramped or crowded.
The seven cabins are located in the lower deck of the boat, with the indoor staircase leading up to the lounge saloon. Each cabin has a porthole window, air conditioning, a private bathroom and plenty of storage space for your personal belongings. Three of the cabins have a fixed large double bed, and one of these (at the front of the boat) also has a sofa. Two more cabins have two single beds, and the final two cabins have a double bed with a single bunk. These cabins are normally sold to just two guests, but a group of three can share if they like.
Like on nearly all Maldives liveaboards, the diving is done from the support dhoni, which is a boat that accompanies Nautilus One during the cruise. The dhoni is where all the equipment is stored and tanks are filled with air or Nitrox. Wetsuits can drip dry away from the main boat, where you get the maximum space to relax. The other benefit of the dhoni is that it’s smaller & more manoeuvrable and therefore better at getting you right above the reef to start each dive. Maldives dive safaris are always a dream on Nautilus One!
